Shortly after 5am today, Lythia shot the second experimental video while I recited my poem aloud. It’s all in a single take which was also the first. We didn’t rehearse and she’d not read/heard the poem before and I’d not read it aloud. We shot this in the front yard.
It’s titled, "By such stones as these". I hope you enjoy it!
Trying something wholly new (to me!) tonight. My creative partner Lythia and I worked on something that I guess you might term ‘performance art’ even though that makes me feel slightly pretentious since I have, yanno, zero art training beyond a sketch class.
Anyways, this video is for a poem I wrote earlier today (about 4 hours ago) entitled: One Fist Forward, Against Any Odds. I’ll be posting a digital copy of the the original (fancy version of “I’ll type it up”) soon, but for now I’d appreciate it if you’d simply see the video without knowing too much beforehand and experience whatever it brings you.
Some notes: I’ve never done a spoken word poem before. I did not rehearse this aloud in any way beforehand. Lyth shot this video with her cellphone and had not read or heard this poem beforehand. She improvised with the camera so when we watched it afterwards we found some of the image to word correlations incredibly uncanny. You can feel free to leave any feedback that you like. For me, part of this project is that you in the audience CAN respond. Unless you’re advertising something I can’t feel comfortable linking to, I won’t delete your comment. We’ll let everyone see the whole record.
As the first video experiment, I am impressed. All in one take, zero editing (I can’t afford the software or PC powerful enough to do that now anyhow) and zero training. Hopefully it will improve, but for now I prefer to enjoy these moments that won’t happen again (firsts). Enough babble….
And in case you’re wondering, yes this poem will be for sale (including the original handwritten copy if you want that mailed to you).
